Hasaranga Joins Elite Club: Matches Waqar Younis’ Feat with Consecutive Five-Wicket Hauls in ODIs
The most consecutive five-wicket hauls in ODIs have been equaled by Wanindu Hasaranga. In an impressive opening, Sri Lanka started their Cricket World Cup Qualifier campaign.
Joining Pakistan’s great Waqar Younis, Hasaranga is now one of only two bowlers to have claimed five wickets in three consecutive ODIs thanks to his impressive spin bowling. He conceded 5/79 runs in his spell of 10 overs against Ireland.
With a streak that began by taking 6/24 against the UAE, the leg-spinner, aged 25, then followed up with 5/13 against Oman. In just three opening matches for Sri Lanka during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers held in year 2023, he managed to take an incredible count of sixteen wickets.
Waqar made a benchmark by securing 5/52 against West Indies in 1990 as an ICC Hall of Fame inductee. The ICC reported that he began his hot streak by making 5/11 and 5/16 against New Zealand.
