1. Mahua Moitra Expulsion: Supreme Court notifies Secretary General of Lok Sabha of the expulsion
The Supreme Court has responded to a suit filed by Trinamool leader Mahua Moitra contesting her expulsion from the House last month by serving a notice to the secretary general of the Lok Sabha.
The official has been given three weeks by the court to provide a response.
In spite of this, the court has refused to allow her to take part in Lok Sabha proceedings.
2. China-Taiwan: Days before elections, three Chinese balloons travel across the island.
The Taiwanese Defense Ministry announced on January 2 that three Chinese balloons had flown over Taiwan Island and close to an air base.
This is the first time that balloon activity has been observed over the island; earlier this month, reports of similar events in the Taiwan Strait were made.
When the United States shot down a similar device in February 2023 and claimed it was a Chinese surveillance balloon, the world became increasingly concerned about China’s use of spy balloons.
China retaliated, arguing that the balloon had accidentally strayed off course and was a civilian aircraft.
3. Despite the end of the truckers’ strike over the hit-and-run law, supply chain disruption is still imminent.
Chaos results from a statewide strike by truckers and carriers demanding lenient punishments in hit-and-run incidents.
The demonstration affects public services in several states by stifling the flow of fuel, driving up the cost of vegetables, and stopping buses.
Fruits, LPG, and medication start to run short, raising fears about basic supplies.
4- Important Adani Group Investments Increase Investor Confidence Adani-Hindenburg Case:
In a major win for the Adani Group, the Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that the capital markets regulator SEBI’s inquiry into the Hindenburg case cannot be questioned based solely on the findings of the OCCRP, an organization that has received funding from billionaire George Soros and other donors.
A Supreme Court panel led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra delivered the decision, ruling that there was no justification for sending the matter to a special investigation team (SIT).

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is being summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation to cease his campaigning for the general elections of 2024, according to a statement made today by Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj.
“The central government is well aware that one day Manish Sisodia will be proven innocent, so efforts are being made to trap Arvind Kejriwal in a false case,” said Bhardwaj.
“There’s an attempt to arrest all major opposition leaders through ED in some case, while the BJP, which had campaigned against corruption, is now free from all allegations as soon as its leaders joined.”
6. UPI Transactions: Significant Modifications In 2024 To Enhance Online Payment & Banking Environments
In the New Year of 2024, significant modifications were made to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) regulations.
The modifications have been implemented to enhance the experiences of online banking and payment transactions.
According to IANS, payment applications have been directed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to deactivate UPI IDs that have not been used for more than a year.
The UPI transaction limit for hospitals and educational institutions has been increased by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Check out the video to learn more.

While dormant on the Red Planet, NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover has shown off an unexpected ability: it functions as a sundial.
In November, Curiosity’s cameras recorded a full 12hour “Martian day” from sunrise to sunset, displaying the movement of the rover’s shadow over the Martian terrain.
NASA released the video on late December, showcasing the rover’s distinct viewpoint while it was stationary.
The video shows a 12hour period during which Curiosity stayed parked, enabling spectators to see how its shadow moved across Mars.
According to NASA, the recording and a solar conjunction, which happens every two years when Earth and Mars are on different sides of the Sun—coincided.
