Billionaire Gautam Adani has emerged as the richest person in India, overtaking Mukesh Ambani in the latest 2024 Hurun India Rich List.
Adani secured the top position with a wealth of ₹11.6 lakh crore, pushing Ambani to the second spot, whose family’s wealth stands at ₹10.14 lakh crore.
Adani’s rise to the top underscores his dominant presence in the Indian business sector. Notably, his wealth has surged by an impressive 95% in just one year.
HCL Technologies chairman Shiv Nadar secured the third position with a wealth of ₹3.14 lakh crore, while Cyrus S. Poonawalla of Serum Institute of India stood at the fourth position with ₹2.89 lakh crore.
The Hurun India report highlights that, on average, a new billionaire emerged every five days in the past year.
Currently, India is home to 334 billionaires, an increase of 75 compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, the report states that 1,539 individuals now possess wealth of ₹1,000 crore or more, marking an increase of 220 compared to the previous year. Additionally, the average wealth has grown by 25%.
The report also revealed that the real estate and industrial products sectors contributed the most new entrants to the billionaire list. It is noteworthy that the youngest individual on the list is just 21 years old.
