Afghanistan Advances to Super 8 in T20 World Cup 2024

Another major upset has been recorded in the T20 World Cup. The underdog Afghanistan team has made its way into the Super-8 stage.

In a Group-C match held on Friday, Afghanistan achieved a remarkable victory over Papua New Guinea, winning by 7 wickets. As a result, the Afghan team advanced to the Super-8.

Batting first, the Papua New Guinea team scored 95 runs, with Kiplin Doriga being the top scorer with 27 runs. Afghanistan’s bowlers performed well, with Farooqi taking 3 wickets, Naveen-ul-Haq 2, and Noor Ahmad 1.

Afghanistan chased down this target in just 15.1 overs. Afghan batter Gulbadin Naib shone in this match with an unbeaten 49 runs.

Consequently, from Group-C, Afghanistan advanced to the Super-8 alongside the West Indies.

Meanwhile, New Zealand, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea have been effectively eliminated.

New Zealand lost both matches it played so far, and with no chances of advancing even if they win the remaining two matches, the team is out of the tournament.
