Review:
‘Antony’ stars Joju George in the lead role, marking a significant addition to the movies released in the latter half of last year. This film, initially released in theaters on December 1st, garnered positive feedback from the audience and has been streaming in Telugu on ‘Aha’ from February 23rd. Let’s delve into what the movie has to offer.

Set against the backdrop of Kerala’s picturesque locales, ‘Antony’ tells the story of its titular character, Antony (played by Joju George), who faces the brutal loss of his family at the age of 19. Betrayed by Narayan, a business partner of his father, and maligned by a corrupt police officer’s scheme, Antony’s entire family commits suicide in his absence. On the anniversary of their death, Antony avenges his family by killing Narayan and the officer involved.

With no evidence found against him, Antony is released from jail and becomes a gangster, surrounded by a circle of five loyal friends. Despite his rough exterior, Antony’s actions often reveal his good heart. After a friend becomes a victim of an attack by Xavier (played by Tini Tom), Antony retaliates, which leads to Xavier’s death. Once again, Antony escapes due to lack of evidence.

Xavier’s brother, Tarson, and his family are left destitute. Learning about their plight, Antony helps them with land and a new home. However, a tragic incident led by another misfortune results in the death of Jessie, Xavier’s wife. The responsibility of protecting Maria, Xavier’s daughter, falls on Antony, as decided by a priest.

The film also explores Antony’s conflicts with another gangster, Lawrence, and Tarson’s vengeance for his brother’s death. Amidst these conflicts, Antony is determined to protect Maria’s future without engaging in further violence. How Antony navigates these challenges and fulfills his responsibility towards Maria forms the crux of the story.

Directed by Joshiy and scripted by Rajesh Varma, ‘Antony’ might not offer a new story but captivates with its screenplay, character arcs, and emotional depth. The film beautifully portrays the transformation of a man accustomed to a life of crime into a protective figure for a young girl, exploring themes of friendship, love, and sacrifice.

The performances of Joju George as a father figure and Kalyani Priyadarshan as the daughter stand out, adding emotional weight to the narrative. The film’s locations add to its appeal, with cinematography that brings Kerala’s beauty to life. Jakes Bejoy’s background score elevates Antony’s character, and Shyam Sasidharan’s editing ensures the film’s pace remains tight without unnecessary diversions.

‘Antony‘ resonates with family audiences, weaving a story around the themes of companionship, love, and sacrifice. Even though Antony’s character may appear harsh, his humane side and the narrative’s focus on family values connect deeply with the audience, making ‘Antony’ a touching portrayal of life’s complexities and the power of redemption.
