AP Education: 10th Grade Students get Opportunity to Write Exams in Telugu – AP Government’s Decision
The Andhra Pradesh (AP) government has delivered good news for 10th-grade students studying in government schools.
It announced that students could opt to write their public exams in the Telugu medium if they wish. The government also clarified that students can amend their previously submitted applications accordingly. However, this option will be available only for this year.
In the 2020-21 academic year, the then government had issued orders to convert classes 1 to 6 in government schools to the English medium. Subsequently, it declared that each higher grade would also shift to English medium gradually.
As part of this transition, students in 10th grade were required to take their exams in the English medium.
However, a case was filed in the Supreme Court regarding this issue. The court directed that there should be “one medium of instruction,” but it did not specify whether it should be English or Telugu.
Due to this lack of clarity, many schools continued to offer both Telugu and English mediums.
In this context, teachers requested that students who studied in Telugu medium be allowed to write exams in Telugu.
Responding to these appeals, the government decided to permit students to write their exams in Telugu medium for this year alone.
