Prominent music director AR Rahman has taken a strong stance against defamatory campaigns being circulated on social media and in mainstream media.

Rahman has demanded the deletion of news articles, social media posts, and videos that spread false information about his divorce and family.

His lawyer issued a public notice, warning that a defamation suit under Section 356 of the Indian Penal Code would be filed if the defamatory content is not removed within 24 hours.

Recently, AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu mutually agreed to divorce. Saira Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, initially revealed this to the media, followed by a statement from Rahman himself.

Both described this period as a tough phase in their lives. They officially announced their decision to inform their fans and well-wishers, emphasizing the difficulty of this decision.

Despite their plea for privacy, some media outlets and social media platforms have continued to spread false information, prompting Rahman’s strong response.

Rahman’s lawyer, Narmada Sampath, stated in the notice that all defamatory content related to her client on platforms like YouTube, Twitter (X), Facebook, Instagram, and other online and news media should be removed.
