Bhuvneshwar Kumar Becomes IPL’s Top Fast Bowling Wicket-Taker

IPL 2025: Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Record-Breaking Milestone

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has etched his name into IPL history by becoming the league’s highest wicket-taking fast bowler. He reached this milestone during Monday’s match against Mumbai Indians, where he dismissed Tilak Varma to surpass the previous record held by former Chennai Super Kings bowler Dwayne Bravo.

At 35, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has now taken 184 wickets across 179 matches in the IPL. This achievement places him third overall on the list of highest wicket-takers in the tournament’s history, behind only Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 206 wickets, and Piyush Chawla with 192.

Among fast bowlers in IPL history, Bhuvneshwar now leads the tally, ahead of Bravo (183 wickets in 158 innings), Lasith Malinga (170 in 122), Jasprit Bumrah (165 in 134), and Umesh Yadav (144 in 147).

In the ongoing season, this latest wicket marks Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s third. Except for the opener against Kolkata Knight Riders, he has featured in every match this season.

Prior to his move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Bhuvneshwar Kumar spent 11 years with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Reflecting on the transition, he said, “It’s never easy to leave a team after spending 11 years there. Moving to a new setup can be challenging.

However, the atmosphere at Royal Challengers Bengaluru is unique. The way they welcome and support players is truly special. Being part of Bengaluru feels like a wonderful experience.”
