Andhra Pradesh DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has raised concerns over the increasing prevalence of cybercrimes in the state and announced key measures to address the issue, including setting up dedicated cybercrime police stations.
DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao Addresses Cybercrime Challenges in Andhra Pradesh
During a press briefing in Srikakulam, DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao highlighted:
- A significant rise in cybercrimes, particularly against vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.
- The importance of public awareness campaigns to prevent individuals from falling victim to cybercriminals.
- Plans to establish dedicated cybercrime police stations in every district to combat the growing threat effectively.
He emphasized the need for citizens to remain vigilant and informed about cyber safety practices.
Special Eagle Unit to Tackle Ganja Cultivation in Andhra Pradesh
Addressing issues related to illegal activities, the DGP announced the creation of a special unit called Eagle, which will focus on:
- Monitoring and eradicating ganja cultivation and trafficking, particularly in northern Andhra Pradesh.
- Conducting awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to educate youth about the dangers of drug abuse.
- Collaborating with cabinet ministers and a state-appointed committee to oversee the eradication efforts.
Use of Technology to Enhance Crime Prevention
DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao also discussed the deployment of technology to curb crime:
- CCTV cameras are being installed at identified black spots across Andhra Pradesh to monitor and prevent criminal activities.
- A total of 100,000 CCTV cameras will be installed by March 1, with contributions from donors and the public.
- The use of surveillance technology aims to increase public safety and reduce crime rates.
