Major Dhyan Chand Sports University – Establishing world class sporting infrastructure-2022

On January 2, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to Meerut and lay the groundwork for the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University.

The university would be built in the villages of Salawa and Kaili in Meerut’s Sardhana town at a cost of around Rs 700 crore.

Instilling a sporting culture and building world-class sporting facilities in all sections of the country is one of the Prime Minister’s top priorities.

Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut will be a significant step in realising this ambition.

The Sports University will be outfitted with cutting-edge sports infrastructure such as a synthetic hockey field, a football field, a basketball/volleyball/handball/kabaddi court, a lawn tennis court, a Gymnasium hall, a synthetic running stadium, a swimming pool, a multipurpose hall, and a cycling velodrome.

Among other things, the institution will have facilities for shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing, and kayaking.

The University will be able to train 1080 athletes, 540 of whom will be female and 540 of whom will be male.
