Vijay Antony has a significant fan base not only in Tamil Nadu but also in the Telugu states, where his films have a substantial following.
Recently, his new film Hitler, directed by Dhana, was released in theaters on September 27 and is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime as of yesterday.
Here’s a look at the storyline and review of the film.
Story Summary:
Set in a remote village near Chennai, the villagers have to cross a stream to reach the outside world.
During a heavy rain, several women attempt to cross this stream, but the rising water level leads to a tragic accident where they all lose their lives.
As the village mourns, political tension rises in Chennai, with Minister Rajavel (played by Charan Raj) determined to win the upcoming election and become the Chief Minister.
His brother Nallaseenu assists him in this pursuit.
At the same time, Selva (played by Vijay Antony) arrives in Chennai and finds a place to stay with a friend, with plans to get his own room once he finds a job.
On a local train, he meets Sara (played by Riya Suman), and a romance develops between them. As the election approaches, Rajavel brings in 400 crore rupees in black money, which is transported to his constituency in installments via local trains and delivered by local gangsters.
However, the money mysteriously goes missing before reaching its destination. Additionally, key members of Rajavel’s gang are found murdered one by one, leaving him furious.
Rajavel demands that ACP Shakthi (Gautham Vasudev Menon) find the culprit responsible for both the theft and the murders.
Suspicion gradually falls on Selva, and questions arise about his connection to Sara and his possible involvement in the missing money.
The rest of the story unravels who stole the money, why only Rajavel’s funds were targeted, and how Shakthi attempts to uncover the truth.
Analysis:
The first half of the film focuses on the disappearance of Rajavel’s money and the murders of his associates. In the second half, the plot shifts to revealing the culprits and their motives.
The early scenes between the hero and heroine provide some lighthearted moments, while the second half brings intense, emotional exchanges between them.
The plot weaves together elements of political schemes, black money, and gang-related murders, but none of these aspects feel particularly impactful.
The storyline lacks novelty, with scenes that seem like déjà vu from previous action thrillers, and there are hardly any unexpected twists.
The audience can predict early on that Selva is involved in the missing money and even anticipate his motivations, which dampens any potential suspense.
Performances:
Vijay Antony is known for delivering unique stories, but this film feels like a step down from his previous work. Both his look and character portrayal could have used more attention.
It’s surprising to see a seasoned actor like Aadukalam Naren in a limited role with minimal impact. Dhana’s direction shows potential, but the character development and screenplay lack depth.
Technical Aspects:
Naveen Kumar’s cinematography, the background score by Vivek-Mervin, and Sang Tamilan’s editing are passable. However, with numerous action thrillers already set against political backdrops, this film doesn’t stand out.
