HYDRA (Hyderabad Development and Resource Authority) has taken a significant step towards protecting public assets by launching a public grievance system.

This initiative aims to empower citizens to report encroachments on government lands, lakes, canals, and parks.

Starting next year, citizens can lodge their complaints every Monday at Buddha Bhavan. HYDRA Chief Ranganath expressed concern over the alarming rate of encroachments on Hyderabad’s lakes, stating that 45% of the city’s lakes have been encroached upon in the past 40 years.

He emphasized that these encroachments, including those on canals, have contributed to severe flooding in the city, even during minor rainfall.

To combat this issue, HYDRA plans to install CCTV cameras to monitor lakes and their surroundings. Additionally, the authority aims to demolish 200 illegally constructed structures on encroached lakebeds.
