Tokyo Olympics: Indian boxer Lovlina reaches quarterfinals of women’s welter Boxing event-India in Olympics
In her maiden Olympic appearance, Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) of India advanced to the Olympic quarterfinals.
She has defeated German veteran Nadine Apetz in a close last-16 stage bout in Tokyo on Tuesday.
Borgohain mostly used her left hooks to maintain the thin edge.
Both boxers were making their Games debuts, with the Indian becoming the first of her nine-member team to get to the quarterfinals.
The 23-year-old Assamese native won all three rounds on split points.
Borgohain, a bronze medallist at the Asian Championships, will face Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen, a former world champion and seeded fourth, on July 30.
