Olympics opening ceremony: Mary Kom, Manpreet Singh lead Team India as Tokyo games kick-off- India in olympics
When Naomi Osaka ignited the Olympic flame, Tokyo 2020 was officially proclaimed open.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games will be held in Japan from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
The Tokyo Olympics 2020 began on Friday night, after a year-long break due to Covid.
The ceremony, which was the most low-key in the games’ history, started with a magnificent fireworks display.
Because of the Covid issue, India only had 22 athletes in the march past.
India’s flag bearers were MC Mary Kom and Manpreet Singh, the Men’s Hockey team captain.
Around 900 people attended the ceremony, including French President Emmanuel Macron and US First Lady Jill Biden.
Protesters, on the other hand, have been calling for the postponement of the major event due to the covid outbreak.
