K Sanjay Murthy Becomes First Telugu Comptroller and Auditor General

K Sanjay Murthy Sworn in as Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)

K Sanjay Murthy, an officer from Andhra Pradesh, has taken charge as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.

The swearing-in ceremony was held on Thursday at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to him.

Sanjay Murthy is the first Telugu officer to achieve this distinguished position.

Sanjay Murthy, born on December 24, 1964, is the son of former Amalapuram MP KSR Murthy.

He pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was selected as an IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre in 1989.

Over the years, he has held significant positions in central government services. Since September 2021, he has served as the National Secretary of Higher Education, actively contributing to the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) introduced by the central government.

Sanjay Murthy was due to retire as an IAS officer next month. However, recognizing his exemplary service, the central government entrusted him with this crucial role.

The CAG tenure allows appointees to serve for a maximum of six years or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier.

His father, KSR Murthy, was an IAS officer who served as a secretary in the central government and later represented Amalapuram in the Lok Sabha as a Congress MP in 1996.
