Sri Lankan Cricketer Kusal Mendis Scores Centuries from Seventh Position in Both Innings

In the ongoing first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (BAN vs SL), a Sri Lankan batter achieved a rare feat.

The cricketer scored centuries in both innings of a Test match. While it may seem like many have accomplished this feat, what makes Kusal Mendis’ achievement truly remarkable is that he came in to bat at the seventh position and managed to score centuries, adding an interesting twist to the tale.

In the first innings, Mendis scored 102 runs, and another batter, Dhananjaya de Silva, also scored a century (102), leading their team to a total of 280 runs.

Bangladesh was then bowled out for 188 runs.

In the second innings, Mendis (164) captivated the audience with another magnificent century, with Dhananjaya de Silva (108) also scoring a century again.

However, the noteworthy aspect is that Mendis achieved his centuries from the seventh position. They became the third pair to score centuries in the same Test match, joining the likes of Greg Chappell – Ian Chappell (Australia), and Misbah-ul-Haq – Azhar Ali (Pakistan).

Alongside the centuries by Mendis and De Silva, Dimuth Karunaratne also scored a half-century (52), taking Sri Lanka to a total score of 418/10 in the second innings. This set a target of 511 runs for Bangladesh.

Currently, in their second innings, Bangladesh has lost five wickets for 47 runs, making a Sri Lankan victory in the first Test almost certain.
