1-Six days after the “Spy Balloon” controversy, a U.S. F-22 shoots down a car-sized object over Alaska.

Over Alaska on Friday, the US shot down a “high-altitude object.” U.S. President Joe Biden gave the order to shoot after the military there discovered it and thoroughly investigated it. According to the U.S., the object was circling at a height of 40,000 feet and posed a legitimate threat to civil aviation. The object’s origin and intended use are still unknown, though. Six days prior, off the coast of South Carolina, the United States shot down a Chinese “spy balloon,” setting off a major standoff between Washington and Beijing.
