According to Pakistani media, the Shehbaz Sharif administration increased the price of electricity nationwide starting on July 1 by up to PKR 3.23 per unit.

According to The Dawn, the Sharif government hopes to raise PKR 335 billion from the additional surcharge in the upcoming fiscal year to pay for the liabilities of the electricity sector.

Earlier, the Pakistani government authorised an extra surcharge of PKR 3.39 per unit for the current fiscal year.
