USGS confirmed the existence of the enormous earthquake that occurred off the northeast coast of New Zealand in a remote area of the Pacific Ocean. Despite its large magnitude, the tremor did not seem to cause a tsunami, according to reports. According to USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 49 km close to the Kermadec Islands, around 900 km northeast of New Zealand’s North Island.
