Among the prominent web series released on Amazon Prime, ‘Mirzapur’ is a significant one. This crime action thriller received positive reviews from the audience in its first and second seasons.
Since then, everyone has been eagerly waiting for the third season, which started streaming on July 5. Let’s see if this 10-episode series surpasses the first two seasons.
Season 3 starts right where the second season ended. After being injured in the attack by Guddu Bhaiya (Ali Fazal) and Golu (Shweta Tripathi), Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) disappears.
No one knows what happened to him. Guddu starts working to take the throne of Mirzapur while trying to establish control over Purvanchal.
Sharad Shukla (Anjum Sharma) also sets his sights on the throne of Mirzapur, gathering the necessary forces.
Meanwhile, Madhuri (Isha Talwar), the Chief Minister, begins plotting to endanger Guddu’s family, resulting in Guddu’s father being imprisoned. She enlists IG Dubey to eliminate Guddu.
Sharad, aiming to remove Guddu, seeks the help of Bharat Tyagi (Vijay Varma), who is waiting for an opportunity to kill Guddu and Golu. Sharad hides Kaleen Bhaiya, intending to use him to gain control over Mirzapur.
He plans to move Kaleen from Bharat’s hideout to his home.
Madhuri decides to seek Sharad’s help to take revenge on Guddu, believing that her authority will help Sharad secure control over Mirzapur.
During this time, Guddu leaves for another place for a deal, and Golu participates in an operation alone, after which she goes missing.
Upon returning, Guddu learns that Golu has been missing for a few days. He directly confronts Sharad, who denies involvement in Golu’s disappearance.
Who is responsible for Golu’s disappearance? What does Guddu do to find her? Will Madhuri’s efforts to eliminate Guddu succeed? Who will ultimately claim the throne of Mirzapur? These questions form the crux of the story.
This series, comprising 10 episodes, each under an hour long, is quite extensive, as those who followed the previous two seasons would know.
The story progresses from multiple angles, and the number of characters is significant. However, each character has a unique purpose, making it unlikely for viewers to forget them.
Those who watched the first two seasons will easily transition into the third season. However, newcomers may need some time to understand the plot due to the numerous scene shifts.
Writing the screenplay for this series is challenging, as it touches on all major characters in each episode.
While the first seven episodes seem to drag in some scenes, the last three episodes pick up speed.
The plot becomes more interesting with twists and quick scene changes, leaving viewers satisfied with the climax and hinting at another season.
The main actors do justice to their roles. The background score, cinematography, and editing take the story to the next level.
However, the focus on Guddu and Sharad, the lack of power in their roles, Tripathi’s character being confined to a bed, and the slightly extended runtime make this season a notch below the previous two.
