Mundlamuru Villagers Alarmed by Seismic Activity Near Gundlakamma

Residents of Mundlamuru village in Prakasam district have been gripped by fear as consecutive tremors rocked the area for three days. The tremors, which began on Saturday, intensified anxiety among locals with fresh incidents reported on Monday morning and night.

On Monday morning at 10:24 AM, a tremor measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale was recorded. Later that night, two more tremors occurred in Mundlamuru and Marella villages, at 8:16 PM and 8:19 PM, respectively. The sudden loud noises and shaking caused panic among residents, who ran out of their homes and shops to seek safety on the roads.

The epicenter of the tremors is suspected to be between Mundlamuru and Umamaheswarapuram. Tremors were first recorded on November 4 and again on November 21, continuing for three consecutive days since. The frequent seismic activity has left villagers deeply anxious.

The tremors caused partial damage to the building of the local model school, making students afraid to attend classes inside. As a precaution, classes are being held outdoors under trees. Officials noted that the epicenter of the tremors seems concentrated near the Gundlakamma river region.

Seismic Activity Details:

Saturday, 10:35 AM: 3.1 magnitude tremor.
Sunday, 10:41 AM: 2.1 magnitude tremor.
Monday, 10:24 AM: 1.8 magnitude tremor.

Expert Observations:

Seismologist Raghavan emphasized the need for detailed research to understand the recurring tremors at nearly the same times each day. He suggested studying nearby reservoirs and rivers, such as the Gundlakamma river, to identify possible triggers.

He speculated that the tremors could be hydro-seismic in nature or linked to weak zones in the Earth’s crust in the area.

Official Response:

Tahsildar Srikanth confirmed that no loss of life or property has been reported so far. He mentioned that a detailed report has been sent to the District Collectorate, and further action will be taken based on the directions received.

The tremors have left the community shaken, and authorities are actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of the residents.
