Sathyaraj has been a well-known actor to Telugu audiences for a long time, gaining even more popularity with his role as ‘Kattappa.’
Similarly, senior actress Seetha is also familiar to Telugu viewers. These two prominent actors play the lead roles in the web series ‘My Perfect Husband.’
Directed by Thamira, this series has been streaming since August 16 and consists of 8 episodes. Let’s take a closer look at how this series fares.
Plot Overview:
Bharathi (Sathyaraj) and Saraswathi (Seetha) are a married couple with three sons and a daughter.
Bharathi is a professor at a private college in Chennai, known for minding his own business and maintaining a good reputation.
His eldest son, Vasikaran, receives a marriage proposal from Kerala. Due to certain reasons, Bharathi sends his family instead of going himself.
The girl from Kerala is named Deepika (Varsha Bollamma), whose lively nature impresses Saraswathi. During the marriage proposal meeting, Deepika quickly bonds with Saraswathi’s family and grows close to Saraswathi’s daughter.
After returning home, Saraswathi mentions Deepika to Bharathi, revealing that the bride’s mother is also named Bharathi and her father is Subramanyam. This revelation triggers a wave of thoughts in Bharathi.
Suddenly, Bharathi reminisces about his days in junior college. During his college years, a transfer brought an engineer and his daughter, also named Bharathi, to his village.
Bharathi instantly fell in love with her. However, when her father discovered their relationship, he transferred out of the village. Bharathi lost contact with her after that.
The idea of his son marrying the daughter of his old flame makes Bharathi uncomfortable. He decides to prevent the marriage and first resolves to confess his past love story to his wife.
He practices how to tell her, but when she overhears, it creates chaos. Saraswathi tells him not to worry too much about the past and shares his entire story with her.
Bharathi suggests canceling the marriage with Deepika, and Saraswathi agrees. However, they are concerned about how close Deepika has already become with their children.
They decide it’s best to find an excuse to cancel the proposal. Just as they are discussing this, Deepika arrives at their doorstep, shocking them.
Why does Deepika come to Chennai from Kerala? How will Deepika’s mother react upon learning about Bharathi’s past? Will Deepika and Vasikaran’s marriage happen or not? The rest of the story unfolds from here.
Review:
The story unfolds in three phases: the past love story of the elders, the current love story of their children, and the present situation of the two families.
The suspense lies in whether the past love of the parents becomes an obstacle to their children’s marriage. The narrative intertwines these three phases, revolving around ten central characters.
The director effectively portrays the rural backdrop of the past love story and the ongoing conflict between the couple.
However, the current generation’s love story lacks the expected pace. The story progresses slowly from the beginning, with no significant twists.
The track involving Sathyaraj and Seetha brings occasional humor.
While the storyline is interesting, it feels like the execution falls short of expectations.
The content had the potential for stronger scenes and dialogues, as well as a touch of humor, but the slow pace tests the audience’s patience.
The content could have been condensed into 6 episodes instead of 8.
The story is primarily set within four walls, and it could have benefited from involving Kerala locations more. The dull pace of the story is further reflected in the background score.
The cinematography and editing are average. Despite the presence of seasoned actors like Sathyaraj and Seetha, who usually draw family audiences, the series doesn’t quite meet their expectations.
However, the family-friendly content is suitable for viewers of all ages.
