On social media, a video of a Shiv Sena MLA from Eknath Shinde’s camp berating a caterer’s management for supplying subpar food went viral.

Meira Kumar, a former speaker of the Lok Sabha, has been outspoken in her opposition to caste. Speaking after a teacher in Rajasthan brutally killed a 9-year-old Dalit boy for drinking water from his pot, Ms. Kumar bemoaned the persistence of caste violence even after 75 years of independence.

She claimed that in order to reform the caste system, social and political will are necessary because the so-called upper castes take satisfaction in demeaning the lower castes.
