Ollie Pope: A New Record in 147 Years of Cricket History – Historic Feat by the England Cricketer!
Centuries Against South Africa, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Ireland, and Pakistan
England cricketer Ollie Pope set a remarkable new record in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka. He achieved a feat that no one in 147 years of Test cricket history has accomplished before.
Playing his 49th Test match, Pope became the first cricketer to score his first seven Test centuries against seven different teams. He accomplished this record by scoring a century in the final third Test of the series.
Another notable achievement of Pope’s Test career is that each of his centuries was scored at six different venues.
His first Test century came against South Africa in 2020, followed by his second century in Nottingham against New Zealand. He then scored his third century in Rawalpindi against Pakistan.
Pope recorded his only double century at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground against Ireland.
Additionally, he played a brilliant innings of 195 runs against India in Hyderabad, which remains one of the greatest innings by a foreign player on Indian soil.
Prior to the Sri Lanka series, Pope scored a century at Trent Bridge against the West Indies.
Among the teams playing Test cricket, Pope has yet to score a century against Australia, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Afghanistan, as he has not played against these teams in his career so far.
So far, in 49 Test matches, Pope has scored 2,823 runs at an average of 35.28, including 7 centuries and 13 half-centuries.
Due to an injury to regular captain Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope is currently serving as England’s interim captain in the ongoing three-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
