OYO Enforces Marriage Proof Requirement for Couples Booking Rooms
OYO, a well-known hospitality brand, has introduced a significant rule change in the new year. Until now, the company allowed room bookings for any adult couple, provided they could show valid ID proof, such as an Aadhaar card, regardless of their marital status.
This policy made OYO a popular option for couples seeking privacy. However, CEO Ritesh Agarwal has now decided to put an end to this practice.
In a recent announcement on Sunday, OYO clarified that henceforth, unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to book rooms. Guests will be required to provide valid proof of marriage during the booking process. The company stated that it has updated its check-in policy accordingly.
The new rules will initially be implemented in Meerut and will gradually extend to other cities based on feedback from local operations.
Ritesh Agarwal explained that this move is part of OYO’s commitment to ensuring safe and responsible hospitality practices.
The company emphasized its aim to offer secure accommodations for families, students, and solo travelers. OYO also reiterated its focus on being a reliable and safe brand, catering to a broader audience with enhanced safety standards.
