US police release videos of officer fatally shooting Black man Patrick Lyoya-2022
Police in the US state of Michigan have released video evidence of an officer fatally shooting a 26-year-old Black man in the head, sparking renewed calls for action to end deadly police violence against Black people in the US.
Patrick Lyoya, 26, was shot dead outside a residence on April 4 in Grand Rapids, a city of over 200,000 people located 240 kilometres (150 miles) northwest of Detroit, Michigan, during a traffic stop.
An officer, who has not been identified, can be seen fighting with 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya before discharging his firearm into the back of Lyoya’s head in video released by Grand Rapids police during a press conference.
During the battle, the footage appears to show Lyoya attempting to take control of the officer’s stun gun.
