Railway Board Chairman Mital gets 2-year extension




The term of the Railway Board Chairman A K Mital, who was due to retire end of this month, was extended by two years on Friday.


The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of Mital as Chairman, Railway Board, for a period of two years, till he attains the age of 62 years, with effect from August 1, 2016, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said.



Born on July 7, 1956, Mital was appointed to the top post in Railways Ministry in place of Arunendra Kumar, who had superannuated on December 31, 2014. His term was due to end on Sunday.


Mital, a 1976-batch officer of Indian Railway Store Service, has worked as Member Staff, Railway Board, and ex-officio Secretary to the Government of India. He had also served as General Manager of South Western Railway Headquarters, Hubli.


He was Director (Stores), Executive Director (Vigilance) and Executive Director (Stores) in the Railway Board. He has also worked as Chief Material Manager in Northern Railway.


Mital was also Divisional Railway Manager of the Izzatnagar Division in the North Eastern Railway and Controller of Stores in the South Central Railway, Secunderabad and Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi.
