Sanju Samson Creates History with a Century Against South Africa, Sets Two New Records
In the first T20 match against South Africa held in Durban, Team India secured a resounding victory by 61 runs. Sanju Samson’s effortless century played a crucial role in India’s easy win.
Samson reached his century in just 47 balls and finished his innings with a score of 107 runs from 50 deliveries, including 10 sixes and 7 fours. His outstanding performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
With this century, Samson broke several records. He became the first Indian cricketer to score centuries in consecutive T20 matches.
Notably, he had also scored a century in the previous T20 match against Bangladesh held in Hyderabad, where he scored 111 runs off 47 balls.
That marked his first career T20 century, while the latest one against South Africa is his second.
Internationally, only a few players have achieved consecutive T20 centuries before Samson. These include England’s Phil Salt, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw, and France’s Gustav McKeon. Samson now joins this elite list as the fourth cricketer.
Additionally, Samson tied with Rohit Sharma for the record of hitting the most sixes by an Indian cricketer in a single T20 match, striking 10 sixes against South Africa.
