Team India’s top-order batsmen delivered a commanding performance in the decisive 4th T20 match of the series against South Africa.
Playing on South African soil, Indian batters turned the hosts’ bowlers into mere spectators, producing a run-fest. Opener Sanju Samson scored an unbeaten 109, while Telugu talent Tilak Varma shone with a dazzling 120 not out.
Together, they propelled Team India to a formidable total of 283 runs for the loss of just one wicket in the allotted 20 overs.
Having won the toss at the Johannesburg ground, Team India opted to bat first. Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave the team a solid start by adding 73 runs for the first wicket before Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 36 runs.
Following his departure, Tilak Varma joined forces with Samson, unleashing a torrent of runs that overwhelmed the South African bowling attack at the Wanderers Stadium.
Their relentless onslaught left the South African bowlers struggling as both batsmen raced to their centuries in close succession.
This match marked Samson’s return to form after scoring a century in the first game of the series but suffering two consecutive ducks.
Meanwhile, Tilak Varma continued his superb run, notching back-to-back centuries, including one in the third T20 match held in Centurion.
In today’s game, Tilak reached his century in just 41 balls, while Samson took 51 balls to achieve the milestone. Varma scored a total of 120 runs off 47 balls, including 9 fours and 10 sixes.
Samson’s innings featured 109 runs off 56 balls, with 6 fours and 9 sixes. The sole wicket taken by South Africa in this match was credited to Lutho Sipamla.
