UPSC Introduces Aadhaar Verification for Secure Candidate Authentication

Recently, the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) debarred a trainee IAS officer named Pooja Khedkar after it was revealed that she had been selected through fraudulent means. This incident highlighted the need for more stringent identification processes for candidates.

To address this issue, the central government has granted permission for Aadhaar verification to be used by UPSC for the first time.

This approval will allow UPSC to utilize Aadhaar-based verification during various stages of examinations and recruitment to confirm candidates’ identities.

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions issued a notification on Wednesday regarding this new development.

The notification stated that UPSC would implement Aadhaar verification on a voluntary basis through the ‘One Time Registration’ portal to confirm candidates’ identities during registration and various examination stages.

The verification process will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India).

Last month, Pooja Khedkar, a probationary IAS officer, was debarred by the UPSC on the grounds of fraudulent practices related to her eligibility.

She was accused of misusing a disability certificate and the OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) quota. After a thorough investigation, UPSC decided to debar her from all future examinations.

It is well known that millions of candidates appear for the UPSC Civil Services Examination each year.
