US Polls 2024: Victory for Six Indian-Origin Individuals in American Elections

Indian-origin candidates showcased their influence in the recent US elections. Six individuals of Indian descent have been elected to the House of Representatives this time, an increase from the previous count of five. Incumbents Shri Thanedar, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Dr. Ami Bera, and Pramila Jayapal retained their seats. Additionally, attorney Suhas Subramanyam achieved victory as a Democratic candidate from Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.

With these wins, the number of Indian Americans in the “Samosa Caucus” (a group representing Indian Americans in the US Congress) has risen to six.

Dr. Ami Bera, who represents California’s 6th Congressional District, won once again. The 59-year-old has held this seat since 2013.

Raja Krishnamoorthi was re-elected from Illinois’ 8th Congressional District, a position he first won in 2016.

Pramila Jayapal secured her seat in Washington’s 7th Congressional District, which she has held since 2017.

Ro Khanna won in California’s 7th Congressional District, while Shri Thanedar claimed victory in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District.
