A Glass of Juice that Cost Vinesh Phogat Her Medal
Vinesh Phogat lost her medal at the Olympics due to excess weight. Despite appealing, she did not get any relief. Before the semifinals, Phogat weighed 49.9 kilograms but gained 3 kilograms in just one day, bringing her weight to 52.7 kilograms.
Despite intense efforts and six hours of exercise to shed the extra weight, she couldn’t meet the required limit. Though she won against her opponent, Phogat was disqualified from receiving the medal due to exceeding the weight limit by just 100 grams.
Experts say that her sudden weight gain was due to her diet before the semifinals.
Vinesh Phogat’s Diet:
A glass of juice, fluids, and light snacks were what Vinesh Phogat consumed before the semifinals. She drank 300 grams of juice and several liters of fluids to stay energized.
After the semifinal bout, she had some light snacks. According to a Sportstar report, this caused her to gain 3 kilograms.
Despite working hard for six hours on the treadmill, spending three hours in a sauna, and avoiding even a drop of water, she couldn’t lose the necessary weight.
In a desperate attempt, her coaches removed the elastic from her clothing and cut her hair, but even then, she was 100 grams over the limit, leading to her disqualification.
