In the ongoing first Test match between India and Australia at Perth, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a spectacular performance by scoring a century in the second innings.
Jaiswal reached his milestone in style, hitting a six off Josh Hazlewood when he was on 95 runs. He achieved this feat in 205 balls, with the help of 8 fours and 3 sixes.
Jaiswal is the first Indian opener since KL Rahul in the 2014-15 series in Sydney to score a Test century in Australia.
Jaiswal’s Record-Breaking Century
At just 23 years old, Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the fifth Indian cricketer to score the most Test centuries in a calendar year under the age of 23.
Sunil Gavaskar in 1971 and Vinod Kambli in 1993 both scored four centuries, while Ravi Shastri in 1984 and Sachin Tendulkar in 1992 each scored three centuries.
Jaiswal has equaled their record with three centuries in 2024.
Joining the ranks of Sunil Gavaskar and Vinod Kambli, Jaiswal is among the elite group of Indian cricketers with four centuries before turning 23.
Sachin Tendulkar leads this list with eight centuries, followed by Ravi Shastri with five centuries.
On the third day of the Perth Test, openers resumed at the overnight score of 172/0.
Shortly after play began, KL Rahul was dismissed for 77 runs, caught by Carey off Mitchell Starc’s bowling, making it India’s first wicket at 201 runs. Devdutt Padikkal and Jaiswal are currently at the crease.
