Hanging is Justified… High Court Verdict in Dilsukhnagar Blast Case

High Court Delivers Final Verdict in 2013 Dilsukhnagar Blast Case

The High Court has affirmed that the death penalty is the appropriate punishment for those convicted in the Dilsukhnagar bomb blast case, which occurred in Hyderabad. Delivering its final judgment on Tuesday, the court endorsed the earlier ruling given by the Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The court confirmed that the death sentence imposed on Akhter, Zia-ur-Rahman, Yasin Bhatkal, Tahseen Akhtar, and Aijaz Shaikh remains valid for their role in executing the blasts that resulted in multiple casualties.

On February 21, 2013, two explosions struck the area surrounding the Dilsukhnagar bus stand in Hyderabad, occurring just minutes apart. The first explosion took place in front of the bus stand, while the second detonation happened roughly 150 meters away.

The perpetrators had concealed explosives in tiffin boxes to carry out the attack. Eighteen individuals lost their lives in the incident, and around 130 others were injured.

The National Investigation Agency led the investigation and identified Yasin Bhatkal, affiliated with the Indian Mujahideen terrorist organization, as the prime accused. The agency also determined that five additional individuals had participated in the attack and proceeded to bring them before the court.

After an extensive judicial process, the NIA Special Court imposed the death penalty on all five convicted individuals. These convicts subsequently challenged the ruling in the High Court.

In its latest decision delivered on Tuesday, the High Court rejected the appeal and upheld the original sentence. However, Riyaz Bhatkal, considered the chief accused in the case, continues to evade arrest and remains at large.
