A helicopter that was recently brought in for repairs at Kedarnath slipped and fell while being transported for maintenance.
This incident occurred on Saturday morning while the Army was transporting the helicopter using cables attached to an Army helicopter. Due to the heavy weight and strong winds, the Army helicopter lost balance. As a result, the helicopter being transported had to be released.
The helicopter fell into the Mandakini River in the Lincholi area. Upon impact, the helicopter was shattered into pieces.
The helicopter, which was used to transport devotees to Kedarnath, had to make an emergency landing last May. Since then, the travel company had kept the helicopter grounded.
On Saturday, arrangements were made to repair it. The helicopter was set to be transported to Gauchar using an Army MI-17 chopper. After securing it with cables, the MI-17 chopper took off, lifting the helicopter along with it.
However, due to the excessive weight and strong winds, the MI-17 chopper faced difficulties, forcing the helicopter to be released mid-air, according to officials.
