Hyderabad Airport Metro Takes Off with Experienced Engineering Consultancy at the Helm
A new General Consultant (GC) has been chosen for the Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail project by a team of engineers that also includes Systra, RITES, and DB Engineering. An open competition between five multinational groups ended with this consortium coming out on top. The team was led by Systra, a significant French engineering consultant, whereas RITES is an Indian Railways PSU and DB is German.
N.V.S. Reddy, the managing director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML), claims that the Systra-led group won due to both its excellent technical performance and the fact that it offered the lowest price of Rs 98.54 crore for the engineering consultation services. Throughout the building of the Airport Metro, the consortium will use 18 experts in various fields of railway engineering as well as about 70 senior and field engineers.
A technical committee evaluated the skills, knowledge, and expertise of the five consortia that took part in the tender and made suggestions that were used to choose the GC. K. Ramakrishna Rao, Special Chief Secretary for Finance, Arvind Kumar, Metropolitan Commissioner for HMDA, and MD Reddy from HAML made up the committee. The Airport Metro project’s general contractor was decided upon to be the Systra-led consortium.
The GC’s primary duty is to create the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) tender documents in order to select the Airport Metro’s construction company. The information technology hub of Hitec City and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad will be connected by the 31-km-long Metro. The state government started the project, which will cost Rs 6,250 crore, and the first stone was placed on December 9, 2022.
