Jasprit Bumrah’s Stellar Performance in Perth Test: Joins Kapil Dev’s Elite Club!

Indian team captain Jasprit Bumrah has achieved a rare feat in the first Test against Australia, part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, held in Perth.

Bumrah took five wickets, giving away just 30 runs, and joined the elite club of Indian bowlers who have taken five wickets in an innings in ‘SENA’ countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).

Bumrah now stands alongside the legendary Kapil Dev, both having accomplished this feat seven times.

With this record, Bumrah surpassed notable Indian bowlers B.S. Chandrasekhar (6), Zaheer Khan (6), Bishan Singh Bedi (5), and Anil Kumble (5) in terms of taking five-wicket hauls in ‘SENA’ countries.

What’s more impressive is that Bumrah achieved this milestone in just 51 matches, faster than Kapil Dev, who reached it in 62 matches.

Bumrah has taken five wickets twice in Nottingham and Cape Town, and once each in Johannesburg, Melbourne, and Perth. This marks the 11th time he has taken five wickets in an innings in his Test career.

Bumrah has also become the fourth Indian bowler to take the most wickets in Tests on Australian soil, with 37 wickets in just eight matches.

Kapil Dev leads the list with 51 wickets, followed by Anil Kumble (49) and Ravichandran Ashwin (39).

Another Record for Captain Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah is now the fifth Indian captain to take five wickets in a Test innings, following the footsteps of Vinoo Mankad (1), Bishan Bedi (8), Kapil Dev (4), and Anil Kumble (2).

The last Indian captain to achieve this was Anil Kumble in 2007 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with figures of 5/84. Bumrah has now replicated this impressive feat.
