Manu Bhaker Wins BBC ‘Indian Sportswoman of the Year’ Award for Paris Olympics Performance

Indian shooter Manu Bhaker has been honored with the BBC ‘Indian Sportswoman of the Year’ award for her remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics 2024, where she secured two bronze medals.

The 22-year-old shooting star made history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win two medals in a single Olympics. At the Paris Olympics, she clinched bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event and another bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event.

This prestigious award had a strong list of nominees, including cricketer Smriti Mandhana, wrestler Vinesh Phogat, golfer Aditi Ashok, and para-shooter Avani Lekhara. However, Manu Bhaker emerged as the winner, solidifying her status as one of India’s top athletes.

In recognition of her outstanding contribution to Indian sports, the Government of India has also honored Manu Bhaker with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the country’s highest sporting honor, this year.
