High-Profile Mariamma Murder Case: No Bail for YCP Leader Nandigam Suresh

YSRCP’s Nandigam Suresh Arrested, Bail Rejected in Murder Case

In a major setback for former Andhra Pradesh MP and YSRCP leader Nandigam Suresh, the Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected his bail plea.

The petition filed by Suresh was dismissed by a bench led by Justice Dipankar Datta, who upheld the trial court’s decision to deny bail.

Suresh, who was arrested in connection with the high-profile Mariyamma murder case, had initially approached the trial court seeking bail. However, the court rejected his plea, citing non-disclosure of details related to his criminal cases.

Following this, Suresh filed an appeal in the Supreme Court, which also dismissed his petition, stating that it would not interfere with the trial court’s decision.
The Mariyamma Murder Case

The case revolves around the murder of Mariyamma, a Scheduled Caste woman from Velagapudi village in Tulluru Mandal, in 2020.

At the time, Mariyamma had publicly criticized Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of deceiving her by halting her pension and failing to fulfill promises of providing housing.

Following her criticism, a group allegedly linked to Nandigam Suresh attacked Mariyamma at her residence. She was severely beaten and subsequently succumbed to her injuries.

Despite filing a complaint, Mariyamma’s son alleged that police did not take any action and shelved the case during the previous administration.

After a change in government, Mariyamma’s son sought justice by approaching Minister Nara Lokesh.

Acting on Lokesh’s orders, the police expedited the investigation, leading to the arrest of former MP Nandigam Suresh, who was subsequently sent to jail.
