NEET UG 2024 Results: Supreme Court Sets Deadline and Privacy Measures

NEET UG 2024 Results: Court Directs NTA to Release NEET Results by July 20, Ensures Privacy

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the central government to release the NEET-UG results by noon on Saturday (day after tomorrow).

Orders were issued to the National Testing Agency (NTA) accordingly. The NEET committee was instructed to publish the results by city and center while masking the candidates’ identities to prevent their personal details from being exposed.

This decision came after a bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, reviewed petitions alleging malpractices in the NEET-UG examination.

Senior Advocate Narendra Hooda argued on behalf of a petitioner who urged the release of the results, stressing that the results should be published without any irregularities.

However, the Solicitor General contended that releasing the results might expose students’ personal information.

In response, CJI Chandrachud questioned why the results could not be announced using dummy roll numbers specific to examination centers.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court emphasized the need to publish the marks obtained by students in NEET-UG 2024 while ensuring their identities remain confidential.

CJI Chandrachud noted the necessity of verifying whether the reported leakages in Patna and Hazaribagh were isolated incidents or had wider implications.

He remarked that students have been left anxious due to the delay in result announcement and suggested monitoring the marks center-wise.

The court will continue to hear subsequent petitions related to NEET irregularities on Monday.
