Sanjal Gavande is one of the minds behind Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin’s space rocket ‘New Shephard,’ which will take a suborbital tourist flight on July 20.

Sanjal Gavande, a 30-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Kalyan, has hit the headlines as a member of Blue Origin’s technical team that built the sub – orbital space rocket New Shephard.

It will take billionaire Jeff Bezos and three others, including her, to space.

Sanjal Gavande, a systems engineer with the commercial spaceflight company, graduated from the University of Mumbai with a mechanical engineering degree.

She relocated to the United States in 2011 to complete her master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Michigan Technological University.

Sanjal Gavande, a commercial pilot, sought for a job as a space engineer at NASA but was denied owing to citizenship issues.

She did, however, subsequently join Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin as a systems engineer in early April of this year.

The debut of New Shephard will take place on July 20 at 8:00 a.m. Central Time (1300 GMT).

The explosion will take place from Launch Site One, a remote site in the west Texas desert some 25 miles (40 kilometres) north of the closest town, Van Horn.
