IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer Criticizes Maxwell Over Review Misstep

During an IPL 2025 match held on Saturday at Uppal between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was seen expressing anger towards bowler Glenn Maxwell. The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, with many users commenting that Iyer’s reaction was justified.

The incident occurred while Sunrisers Hyderabad were chasing a large target. Their openers, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, were playing aggressively. At one point, Glenn Maxwell bowled to Travis Head, who attempted a shot but missed. The ball went past the bat and into the wicketkeeper’s gloves. Maxwell immediately appealed for a catch, but the on-field umpire declared it a wide.

Without pausing for a discussion, Glenn Maxwell called for a Decision Review System (DRS) appeal. The umpire accepted the request and referred the decision to the third umpire.

Shreyas Iyer appeared visibly upset with Maxwell’s action. The video shows Iyer reacting sharply, seemingly questioning why Maxwell had initiated the DRS appeal without consulting him. He was later seen signaling for the review himself.

According to IPL rules, only the captain of the fielding side can officially request a DRS review. Fans on social media have criticized the process, questioning how the third umpire accepted a review based solely on Maxwell’s appeal without the captain’s explicit signal.
